What is
desk entertainment?
what do people have on their desks?
what is entertaining?

to answer these questions we conducted…
market analysis
we concluded from a brief overview of desktop entertainment products:
oversaturation of non-productive, actively engaging device -> distractions
want to lean towards its opposite

user observations
we observed and conducted brief interviews with closed office workers about their desks and found…
sticky notes!

from our thumbnails and pin-ups, we landed solidly on sticky notes as our main inspiration…

our concept checkpoint led to more iterations and user testing…

which guided us to our final concept

to validate our concept, we tested 3 mechanisms:

rack and pinion tongue
- rolls in and out
TPU turbine
- pushes sticky notes off tongue
whirling fan
- physically impossible

another major problem? our fella was too big!
both of these parts were to be driven by separate servos, which bulked it up quite a bit

we 3D printed our shells in ABS with water
soluble supports

for our PETG grilles, the molds were resin printed to resist warping and cracking when heated, and were made in +/- sets for an even curve

for our vacuum formed container, the PETG was too thick and would turn white from stress, so we used polystyrene for our final model

rough assembly before full finishes

first assembly with all parts
